Why is methyl benzoate more electrophilic than ch3o-ph-cooch3?
Why does presence of Cl atom (EWG) on methyl benzoate increase its electrophilic nature than CH3O group (EDG)?
Both Cl atom & CH3O group have lone pairs. So why can't both act as EDG due to +R effect? Please explain.

@anag och3 is donating grp. It decreases delta+ charge on carbonyl carbon

@anag U r urself saying dat Cl is EWG then same reason as above... delta+ charge
In halogens -I dominates +R
But note that they are ortho para directing though they are deactivating grp
