In group 16, how does the +4 and +6 oxidation state vary as we go down the group and why?

Down the group stability of +6 oxidation state decreases and stability of +4 oxidation state increases due to inert pair effect

Re: InorganicActually oxygen is too much electronegative and second largest electronegative atom other than fluorine. So if you want that it shows+4 oxidation state then it is only possible in compound like OF4 which did not exist. Hence it didn't show +4 oxidation state
