Why has energy not been conserved in (a) but energy is conserved in (b)? Please explain.

  • @anag
u cannot conserve energy by equating total energy before collision to total energy after collision as during collision loss or gain of energy take place...in (b) none of the particle gained or lose ant K.E due to collision therefore total energy remained in the form of P.E which is same as the earlierP.E...its not that they have conserved total energy before collision to that after collision...
