I think this will happen instead
In the case of cyclopentane-1,3 dione, the carbon in between the two c=o will become - ci2- in the first step. When an i- attacks, the other carbonyl carbon leaves with a negative charge which is stabilized by the oxygen attached to it..... Hence is a good leaving group. In the end, you are left out with a visible coch3 group and it now gives iodoform test.
