@ABCDMA-ABCDMA Well it depends on the concentration of the HCl.
At low concentrations, HCl completely ionises as it reacts with water to form aqueous H 3 O + and Cl- ions;-
HCl(g) + H 2 O(l) → H 3 O + (aq) + Cl − (aq)
CuCl 2 also ionises in aqueous solution to form Cu+2 and Cl- ions;-
CuCl 2 (s) → Cu +2 (aq) + 2 Cl − (aq)
However, at very high concentrations of HCl, a significant amount of unionised HCl is present. This reacts with dissolved Cu +2 ions to form the complex anion; tetrachlorocopper(II) (CuCl −24 );-
Cu +2 (aq) + 4 HCl → CuCl −24 + 4H + (aq)
