  • Does entropy decrease or increase when a rubber is stretched?

    When we stretch the rubber, we apply force to stretch the molecule of rubber to align the molecules which hence becomes less randomly arranged so the entropy or the disorderness or randomness of of molecule decreases

    When stretched the polymer strands should be more aligned and straighten out along the direction of the stretching. So when you relax it the strands go in all directions, or become more disordered. So the entropy increases (the entropy change is positive) when the rubber band can relax.
